What Makes Real-Time Trip State Harder Than It Looks in Uber-Like Systems
Trip tracking sounds like a map problem, but the hard part is keeping state changes trustworthy across drivers, riders, dispatch, and pricing paths.
Realtime trip systems are not just about showing a moving car on the screen. They are about managing a constantly changing operational state machine while multiple actors observe and react to it.
Driver location updates, trip lifecycle transitions, ETA calculations, surge signals, and support tools all consume slightly different slices of the same event stream, and each has different tolerance for delay or correction.
The strongest systems make state changes explicit and replayable so downstream consumers can recover when the stream is delayed, duplicated, or partially missing.
